Aura Art Gallery was established in September 2024 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The manager and art director are from Shanghai. Based on their trans-cultural background, the art landscape of their gallery displays both Oriental and Western features.

The gallery offers space to hold local art events such as art lectures, small art conferences, and public conversation about art etc. They offer various art courses for people to enrich their leisure life and appreciate a unique art experience.

As a new gallery, their passion and ambition is to be an integral part of the local art scene and culture.

The story of our Art Director

Days on the Island —— a photo diary of a mother

At midnight in late autumn of 2022, a mother from Shanghai landed on PEI, an island she knew nothing about, with her 11-year old son and four big suitcases.

With curiosity and unease, she began with resolve to develop her new life here. She had been a curator, a researcher of art history and an artist. Not satisfied with being a passive onlooker from ‘away,’ with a Leica in her hand she took photos and recorded her new life. She took photos everywhere she went. While on her way to pick up her son from school, on her excursion with her kind neighbourhood friends, or strolling through the parks, many photos were taken. She found her own path that led her into this new culture and society.

Early this autumn, she opened her own art gallery and art store, AURA, in Charlottetown.

The name for the opening exhibition of the gallery is: Days on the Island —— a photo diary of a mother.
